ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI’s new advertising platform that lets businesses place ads directly inside ChatGPT conversations. For care homes, it’s a brand-new way to reach families at the exact moment they’re researching care — before they’ve even opened Google.

Something shifted this year, and most of the care sector hasn’t noticed yet. The place families go to ask “how do I know mum needs a care home?” is no longer a search box — it’s a conversation with an AI. And as of this year, that conversation can carry ads. We set up our first ChatGPT ad campaign for a care brand recently, so this isn’t theory — it’s what we learned doing it.

This is the first in a short series breaking down what ChatGPT Ads mean for care homes, how to set one up, and how to make sure you’re actually visible to AI in the first place. Let’s start at the top.

What are ChatGPT Ads for care homes?

ChatGPT Ads are sponsored placements that appear inside ChatGPT’s responses, matched to the topic of the conversation rather than to a typed keyword.

Instead of bidding on a search term and waiting for someone to type it, you tell the platform what kinds of conversations your business is relevant to — using short descriptions OpenAI calls “context hints” — and your ad surfaces when ChatGPT judges the discussion to be a good fit. It’s advertising that lives where people are already thinking out loud about their problem.

For a care home, that “problem” is often deeply personal: a daughter three hundred miles away, worried about her father, asking an AI what the early signs of dementia look like. That’s the moment. ChatGPT Ads put you in it.

Why does this matter for care homes right now?

Because families are adopting AI search faster than almost any care home is ready for — and being early to a thin field is the cheapest advantage you’ll ever get.

Here’s the uncomfortable bit. Our June 2026 analysis of 9,807 care homes across England found that only 8% carry enough web evidence for an AI assistant to confidently recommend them — which means roughly 92% are effectively invisible to AI. So the channel families are moving to fastest is one almost no home is set up to win.

That cuts both ways. If you act now, while the corpus of care content inside these tools is thin, you’re not fighting for scraps — you’re planting a flag. The homes that show up first in these conversations will quietly hoover up the enquiries before anyone else realises the game has changed.

How is this different from Google Ads?

Google Ads match a typed keyword; ChatGPT Ads match the meaning of a whole conversation. One waits for the search — the other reads the intent.

With Google, you bid on phrases like “care home near me” and hope your wording lines up with what someone types. With ChatGPT, there’s no single keyword to win. The AI has already understood that the person is a worried family member weighing up options, and it places your ad on the strength of that understanding.

In practice that means less guessing at exact phrases and more describing who you genuinely help. It’s a friendlier model for a sector like care, where the “search” is rarely a tidy keyword and almost always a messy, emotional, human question.

What can you advertise, and what does it cost to start?

You can run ads aimed at clicks or reach, starting from a £15/day minimum — with a “conversions” objective marked as coming soon.

The entry point is low: £15 a day is the platform minimum to deliver reliably. But a quiet word of caution — £15/day is around £450 a month, and right now you’re paying for clicks, not confirmed enquiries (conversion tracking is still “coming soon”). So start small, cap it, and keep an eye on it rather than setting it and walking away. We’ll cover sensible budgeting properly in the how-to post.

The mechanics themselves are refreshingly simple: choose an objective, set a daily budget, describe your ideal conversations with context hints, write a short headline and description, add billing, and launch. None of it requires a marketing degree — though knowing what a click is actually worth to your home is where experience earns its keep.

Should you act now or wait?

Act now. The advantage in a brand-new channel goes to whoever shows up while it’s still empty — and in the care sector, that field is wide open today.

Waiting feels safe, but it’s the expensive option here. Every month you sit out, the AI tools are learning which homes to mention — and once a pattern of recommendations sets in, it’s far harder to break into. The cheap, sensible move is a small, capped test now, so you’re learning the platform while your competitors are still asking whether it’s real.

You don’t need a big budget to start. You need to be present in the conversation before the sector catches up. That window is open right now, and it won’t stay open for long.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT advertising available in the UK?

Yes. ChatGPT Ads are available to UK businesses, with budgets and bids set in pounds. Care homes can advertise to families researching care within their own area.

How much do ChatGPT Ads cost?

The platform minimum is £15 a day — roughly £450 a month — and you currently pay per click. Start at or near the minimum, cap your spend, and review it regularly before scaling.

Can a small independent care home use ChatGPT Ads?

Absolutely. The low daily minimum makes it accessible to independents, and because so few homes are advertising yet, a small, well-targeted campaign can stand out more than it would on a crowded platform like Google.

Are ChatGPT Ads worth it for care homes yet?

For homes willing to run a small, monitored test, yes — the first-mover advantage is real while the channel is new. Just remember clicks aren’t enquiries yet, so your website and follow-up have to do the converting.

I started Care Home Marketing Co. after watching brilliant, well-run homes sit half-empty while bigger groups filled up — not because their care was worse, but because nobody was telling their story properly. I've sat across the table from owners who've cried about how their home had drifted from what it once was. That's the part most agencies never see — and it's exactly why I do this. Get the story right, treat occupancy as a system, and the right families find you. I still personally run the first diagnostic for every home we work with. If that sounds like the kind of help you've been after, I'd love to hear from you.
