Reviews do the one job your brochure can’t: they show families what daily life is really like. Here’s why they drive enquiries, and what ‘good’ looks like.

Reviews are the single biggest driver of care home enquiries because they answer the one question a family can never get from your brochure: what daily life in your home is actually like. A strong, recent, well-answered review profile turns a passive browser into an enquiry.
Ask any manager what fills beds and they will talk about the tour, the food, the team. All true. But almost none of that reaches a family until they have already decided you are worth a phone call. The thing that earns that phone call, more often than anything else, is what other families have said about you.
The care sector’s own data is blunt about this. Research shared by carehome.co.uk found that 76% of care seekers consider reviews extremely or very important when searching for care. Separately, profiles with 20 or more reviews attract around 24% more enquiries than the site average. Across business generally, 71% of consumers read online reviews when researching, and 22% simply do not trust a business with no reviews at all.
For a decision as weighty as a parent’s care, those instincts are even sharper. A family choosing a home is not buying trainers. They are trying to picture their mother’s Tuesday afternoon.

You can say your home is warm, homely and full of life. Of course you can, it is your home. A review says it in someone else’s voice, and that is worth far more. This is trust transfer: a stranger vouching for you carries a weight your own words never will.
Reviews also fill in the part families most want and least expect to find, the texture of daily life. A good review mentions the carer who remembered a birthday, the garden, the way a worry was handled. That detail is exactly what reassures an anxious relative that life does not end at your front door.
Reviews are not one moment, they are the whole shortlist journey. They appear next to your listing in search results, so you are competing on trust before a family has even clicked. They dominate your profile page. And when a family sits down to compare three homes, the reviews are what they read line by line.
It is tempting to chase a perfect score, but that is not what persuades people. Four things matter more:
Get those four right and reviews stop being a scoreboard and start being your best salesperson, working every hour of every day without being asked.
There is no magic number, but 20 is a useful target. Profiles with 20 or more reviews attract noticeably more enquiries, and a run of recent ones matters more than a large but ageing total.
Yes. Sector research shows most care seekers rate reviews as very or extremely important, and homes with a fuller review profile see materially more enquiries. Reviews are closer to a sales channel than a vanity metric.
A specialist care platform such as carehome.co.uk carries huge weight because families trust it and its reviews are verified and detailed. Google matters too for local visibility. In practice you want a presence on both.
